1. Jalan Bijeh Timah – A Glimpse into Ipoh’s Past
As a wandering tourist with a camera in hand, I’m always drawn to scenes that quietly tell a story. This road sign—Jalan Bijeh Timah—stopped me in my tracks. The use of the old Malay spelling “Bijeh” instead of the modern “Bijih” instantly hinted at the age of this place. It felt like a whisper from another era.

2. A Tale of Two Merz – When Time Paused at the Light

In the heart of old Ipoh town, I captured this fleeting yet symbolic moment—two Mercedes-Benz cars, one vintage and one modern, both coming to a stop side by side at the traffic light. It was completely unplanned, yet it felt as though time itself had paused to let the past and present meet.
The classic yellow Mercedes taxi, with its worn charm, echoes a bygone era of Ipoh’s rich local history—an era shaped by tin mining, community resilience, and slower rhythms of life. Beside it, a sleek, newer model represents the city’s ongoing transformation and growth. Behind them stands a grand colonial building with bold arches, a silent witness to the many transitions Ipoh has seen over the decades.
I was drawn to this scene because of the powerful visual metaphor: progress doesn’t erase the past—it moves with it.The red light became a moment of stillness, allowing these two symbols of time to align, even if just for a second. It reminded me that every city has layers, and every street corner can offer a quiet story if we’re willing to look.
