There’s a buzz going around in Sarawak Malaysia, and if you’ve been keeping an eye on Malaysia investment updates or wondering what’s new in Sarawak Borneo and Sarawak and Sabah, here’s something exciting

— Sarawak is gearing up for a big leap in job creation.
Backed by the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030), Sarawak is on track to become a high-income, sustainable economy — and jobs are a huge part of that equation (MIDA).
The economy is moving
We’re looking at a strong bounce-back. The state’s economy grew by 9.2% in 2023, and projections for the next couple of years are solid — hovering around 5% to 6% (Premier of Sarawak Economic Statement).
You can feel it on the ground too — walk around Sama Jaya or Samalaju, and you’ll see development in full swing. The Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) brought in over RM123 billion in investments in 2025, expected to create nearly 54,000 jobs just from that alone (Dayak Daily).
Where the jobs are
We’re not just talking about any jobs. These are higher-paying, future-forward roles in sectors that are thriving globally. Renewable energy’s a big one — hydrogen, solar, green tech — plus advanced manufacturing, IT and cybersecurity, digital marketing, healthcare, tourism, and agro-tech.
The growth is tied closely to Sarawak’s industrial hubs like:
- Samalaju Industrial Park (energy-intensive industries)
- Sama Jaya High-Tech Park (electronics and semiconductors)
- Lawas & Tanjung Manis (agriculture and halal industries)
Skills that matter
All these opportunities need people with the right skills. That’s why the state is focusing hard on developing talent — especially in STEM, TVET, and digital areas.
TalentCorp, together with Sarawak’s Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, has launched the Industry-Academia Collaboration (IAC) to close the gap between what graduates know and what industries actually need (TalentCorp Press Release).
If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your skills, this is the time. There are also more short courses, certifications, and career programs being introduced — especially for digital tools, green technology, and automation systems.
We still have things to fix
Not everything’s perfect yet. A few speed bumps are still in the way — like rural internet access, low interest in STEM among younger students, and some industries still offering wages that don’t match the job expectations.
And yes, a lot of companies still aren’t making full use of automation or tech to boost productivity. Only 45% of businesses interviewed are actively using tech to grow. That needs to change if we want to move faster (IJIM Sarawak Service Sector Report).
But things are moving in the right direction. The government is serious about solving these, and there’s already progress on rural internet coverage, industry training, and digital transformation efforts across sectors.
Why this matters to you (especially if you’re outside Sarawak)
If you’re working in KL, Singapore, or even Australia — you’ve probably thought about coming back home one day. Maybe for family, peace of mind, or just that sense of belonging. Well, now there’s a pretty solid reason to do it.
The opportunities are finally here. And you get to come back to a place with better work-life balance, cleaner air, and a growing economy that actually wants you back. Feels good, right?
And if you’re already here, now’s your time to shine. Whether you’re looking for better pay, a career shift, or to finally start that business you’ve been dreaming about — this is your window.
Real people are already doing it
You’ve seen the stories: a software engineer from KL comes back to lead a green energy project in Kuching. A school leaver from Bintulu takes a TVET course and lands a job with a global manufacturing brand. A couple from Sibu opens a successful homestay near Kapit thanks to Sarawak’s rural tourism push.
These aren’t made-up headlines. They’re everyday people making bold moves. And winning.
If you’re serious about building your career in Sarawak (or coming home for good), this will help you figure out where to start.
So what now?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer here. But if you’ve been waiting for a reason to look at Sarawak again, this might just be it.
Things are moving. People are being hired. The future’s being built. And Sarawak’s got room for you in it.
Let’s grow together — and let’s make home a place where we can all thrive.
